The planning view

Tanzania's northern circuit — Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti — is the classic route, usually reached through Arusha and Kilimanjaro International. The Serengeti's wildlife movement is seasonal and broadly predictable in pattern but never on a fixed date, which is why the northern and southern sectors suit different months. Many trips finish on the Zanzibar archipelago, a short internal flight away, as a slower coastal ending. Internal flights, park fees and drive times between sectors are the real planning constraints; distances on the map understate them considerably.

Where the trip is spent

Ngorongoro Crater

A compact, high-density wildlife area usually visited as a full day from the rim.

Serengeti sectors

Which sector to base in depends on the month; the pattern is seasonal, not a scheduled event.

Zanzibar

Stone Town plus an east- or north-coast base, reached by a short internal flight.

Getting there

Kilimanjaro International (JRO) for the northern circuit, Zanzibar (ZNZ) for the coast. Flying time from the UAE is around five to six hours.

Practical notes

  • Wildlife sightings and movement patterns are natural events and cannot be guaranteed.
  • Vaccination and entry requirements vary by nationality and route — check official government and health sources.
  • Internal flights carry strict luggage limits that affect what you can pack.

Who it suits

Wildlife-led trips, honeymoons and travellers combining plains and coast
